Health Informatics and Information Management Admission Requirements - Bachelor

The Health Informatics and Information Management program at the School of Health Related Professions offers a bachelor degree program with two different types of curricula.

Traditional

In addition to the admission standards of the institution and the general SHRP admission requirements, candidates seeking admission to the Health Informatics and Information Management bachelor degree - traditional program must:

  • Have an overall minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale;
  • Submit a resume;
  • Submit an essay;
  • Submit ACT scores;
  • Upon request, complete an interview with the admission committee;
  • Have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours of academic credit from an regionally accredited institution of higher learning; and,
  • Successfully complete (a grade of C or better) the following minimum prerequisite requirements:

Students enrolled in a quarter academic calendar must complete the required sequence of courses which are equivalent to University of Mississippi courses.

2Social and behavioral sciences include courses such as anthropology, economics, political science, psychology or sociology.

3Humanities and fine arts include courses such as history, literature, foreign languages, journalism, philosophy, religion, art history, music appreciation or theater.

All application documents and application fees for the traditional program must be received by the Office of Enrollment Management by May 15 for fall admission.

 

Progression

In addition to the admission standards of the institution and the general SHRP admission requirements, candidates seeking admission to the Health Informatics and Information Management bachelor degree - progression program must:
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale;
  • Have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours of academic credit (exclusive of physical activity, military science, dogmatic religion and vocational courses) from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning;
  • Hold a current RHIT credential;
  • Submit a resume;
  • Submit an essay;
  • Upon request, complete an interview with the admission committee; and 
  • Successfully complete (a grade of C or better) the following minimum prerequisite requirements:

1 Humanities and Fine Arts include courses such as art history, dance, history, modern languages, music, philosophy, religion or theatre.
2 Natural Sciences includes courses such as astronomy, anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, geology, physics, or physical science.
3 Social and behavioral sciences include courses such as anthropology, economics, political science, psychology or sociology

The application with all supporting documents for the progression program must be received by the Office of Enrollment Management by May 15 for fall admission.
